Open Awning

Open Awning Privacy Policy

Open Awning is made by The Local Beacon LLC, a Maryland limited liability company.

Last updated August 26, 2026.

Live location

We collect your live location only while a share you started is active. On iPhone, updates continue when you lock your phone or switch apps, so your minutes stay honest with the phone in your pocket. On Android and on the web, updates continue only while the app is open. Updates end when you stop, when you arrive, or within two hours. Between trips we collect nothing.

The app asks first. The iOS prompt reads: "Open Awning uses your location so you can share an ETA with a business after you consent."

During a share, the store you picked sees your first name and how many minutes away you are, or that you have arrived. No other store sees it.

Sharing is temporary. You can stop anytime from the live share screen. Stopping ends that share on the server and erases the location points for it. Every share also ends on its own two hours after it starts, and the record is deleted.

We use live location only to work out that ETA for the store. The store does not receive your coordinates. We do not use your location for advertising, and we do not sell it.

You can also turn off location permission for Open Awning in your device settings. Sharing will not work without it.

What else we collect

Account: your username, email address, your password stored only as a hashed value, an optional first name, your account type, and an optional starting location if the app sends one when you sign up.

Notifications: a push token for your device, so we can tell you about a share.

Feedback forms: if you send us feedback, we keep the name, email address, and message you send, and we delete them 180 days after you send them.

Business applications: if you apply to list a business, we keep what you send while the application is open, and we delete the personal parts 180 days after we decide it.

Abuse control: when you use a public form, we keep a one way coded value made from your IP address. We do not keep the address itself, and the coded value is deleted with the form record.

Shops and staff

If a shop owner claims a shop, we store that shop's business address coordinates and its operating hours as part of the public shop listing. This is the shop's location, entered by the owner during setup, not anyone's live location.

If you accept a staff invitation, your account is linked to that shop's team. The owner and the rest of the team see your first name on the team list. They do not see your email address. You can then see the first name and minutes of customers who share an arrival with that shop. You can be removed by the owner at any time.

We keep an invitation email address for up to seven days after the invitation is sent. Revoking or replacing the invitation deletes it sooner.

Who else handles your information

We do not sell your information and we do not share it with advertisers. We use service companies to run Open Awning: hosting, data storage, push notifications, email delivery, and product analytics (session replay with personal fields masked). They handle your information only to provide these services to us. The current list of these companies is available on request at hello@openawning.app.

How to delete your account

Sign in on the Open Awning app, open Account, and tap Delete account. That permanently deletes your account, any stores you own, and live shares, including incoming shares pointed at those stores. It also removes you from any shop teams you joined. This cannot be undone.

Children

Open Awning is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child sent us information, write to support@openawning.app and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and change the date at the top.
